the job in a nutshell
To design and furnish a picture perfect office
In 2021, Studio Slip redesigned award-winning photographer Arjun Kamath’s Bangalore workspace. Studio Slip’s team of designer-architects, led this time by Kamini Rao and Nayana Varma, transformed an otherwise ordinary room into a modern, open, and light-filled workspace.
With the glass door and blinds open, the open-plan format becomes a space for workshops, talks, and events. When drawn, the partition creates a cosy meeting area.
Cole & Son’s floral wallpaper and a collection of photographs on a blue wall brighten up the entrance. On this side of the partition are fixed workstations, overhead storage, a pantry, and a restroom. Adding colour and energy to the private meeting area are the same floral wallpaper and a floor-to-ceiling mirror cladded over columns behind the photographer’s desk. Large windows complement the distressed mirror, both opening up and bathing the space in natural light.
An Asian Paints concrete wall embedded with brass designs runs along one side of the space, connecting the shared work area to the private one. The revamped workspace perfectly embodies Arjun’s photography practice. It provides ample room for Arjun’s many collaborators (models, camera crew, and hair and makeup artists, to name a few) to come together and play.
Studio Slip leaves no detail to chance. Plants, jars, door handles, light fixtures, switchboards, and mugs, to name a few details, all balance and enliven the workspace. A combination of colours and textures gives the space a professional look and a warm feel.
